A unique joint venture that uses Biblical material to improve literacy has been providing care in God’s name to those suffering from AIDS and equipping school students to live God's way.

In three years, 650 people were trained in Home Based Care and each of these trained 5 others in turn. A total of 200 people in the HBC program in both Kenya and Uganda testified that the course had led them to accept Jesus as Saviour and obey God’s law in their daily life.

Meanwhile, 27,124 Kenyan students and 58,000 Ugandan students were reached with education on HIV\AIDS awareness focussing on Christian values that encourage behaviour change. Thousands of parents, teachers and community members also participated in the program.

Due to its success, this exciting project has been extended for a further two years in Kenya and Uganda, as well as being expanded to include nearby Malawi.

Mirroring Kenya and Uganda, the statistics relating to HIV/AIDS in the tiny nation of Malawi are sobering. In a population of just over 12 million, the national rate of HIV infection is at least 12%. Around 550,000 of the children alive in Malawi in 2005 had lost a mother, a father or both parents to AIDS. Low literacy levels like these have the potential to cripple efforts to fight the AIDS epidemic and make the extension of this project so important
