Faith Comes by Hearing
Printed Biblical material is of limited use for those unable to read. But a dramatised audio version of God’s Word can speak directly to their hearts!
Bible Society is working with Hosanna Ministries to make Bible translations available to everyone who speaks a particular language, including those who cannot read.
FCBH audio Scriptures promote literacy and create a hunger for Bibles. Listeners are fired up to learn to read when they hear God’s Word in their own tongue. Having both the written text and an audio recording of the same material means literacy classes can follow along as they listen and learn how to read in their own language. Discussions and comprehension exercises that follow each listening session further enhance each listener’s literacy skills.
Bible Society is providing funding to operate FCBH programs in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines, helping produce and distribute audio New Testaments in various languages, and meet the costs of providing audio players, transport, training and financial support for workers.
1,700 listening groups have been started through the support of Bible Society.
In PNG:
The new recording centre at Ukarumpa is now fully operational, with the Tok Pisin Audio NT recording completed and ready for distribution.
Work is currently under way on recordings in the Umbu Ungu, Misima, Gadsup and Waima languages.
In The Philippines:
1,500 listening groups have been established, each group averaging 40 people.
Hazel Sarmiento says, “Listening to the audio NT makes God’s Word more understandable than I could ever have imagined!”
