This project, run in association with African Enterprise, is based on the success of similar projects run in Kenya and Uganda.
Objectives
To improve reading, writing and comprehension abilities of 60 people over a six month period through training in Home Based Care (HBC) using scripture based HIV\AIDS interventions.
To also increase the knowledge of the Word of God through scripture based HBC education and transform lives.
a) Community leaders will select 60 candidates over six months for training. However, priority will be given to those who have an AIDS patient in their family.
b) The slum areas in Dar es Salaam consist of many prostitutes, single women and widows and this group should be selected as the scripture based training will have an effect on their relationship with God
c) The HBC program requires basic literacy and numeracy ability and non literate people cannot be selected.
The Home Based Care project will cover the following:
* Nutrition, medical dispensation, hygiene and sanitation etc
* Counselling : evangelists and Christian leaders will counsel AIDS patients that God loves them and should accept Jesus as their personal saviour.
* Reconciliation with each other and with God
* Planning for death
* Management of grief
HBC trainers and facilitators will go out into the community where there are AIDS patients and provide nursing care. The demonstration will include:
* medicine dispensation
* physiotherapy
* toilet care
* breathing excercises
* bed making
* cooking
* wound and pressure care
* infection prevention
* pregnancy and HIV\AIDS
* Counselling
The facilitators will use Bible Society published booklets “ The Good Samaritan” and “Living With Hope” in Swahili
Sixty trainees will in turn care for 300 HIV AIDS patients.
