ZVOX digital audio players are being used to reach out to those who can’t read in rural Cambodia with life-saving messages.
Each ZVOX contains health information in the Khmer language - dealing with topics such as HIV/AIDS, health and sanitation, parenting and child protection - as well as literacy lessons using the Khmer Bible as the text.

In association with Samaritan’s Purse, Bible Society has distributed almost 500 ZVOX units to rural villages and churches in Cambodia. Women and church leaders are being trained to use the ZVOX to educate their communities and build their churches.

One ZVOX could transform an entire village, as the knowledge within the community grows - passed on from one woman to many others, and from them to others still. Improved health and literacy will lead to a better standard of living for the village as a whole, and Cambodia’s under-resourced church will grow in numbers and strength as more people have access to God’s Word.

At every ZVOX facilitator training course, giving Bibles to participants is the most exciting and moving part of the whole day: “When the staff bring out the Bibles and we tell trainees they will all be getting Bibles to take back to their churches and villages there is this big gasp - like all the oxygen is being sucked out of the room! The joy on their faces is indescribable!”

Introducing Zvox, 500 hours of hope

The extremely practical answer to this horrendous problem is an IT revolution called Zvox. (What is ZVox? Click to see video) Zvox can deliver messages of hope wherever the need is found. It will empower women and can transform the lives of everyone in isolated Cambodian villages as it spreads its vital messages.

The material to be recorded on Zvox will include vital HIV/AIDS information; child protection advice; health and sanitation instructions; parenting information; and provide information about Christian values such as chastity before marriage and faithfulness after – information that could change their lives forever. As well as instructional information the Zvox will provide the complete Bible in Khmer to give hope to the hopeless.

One Zvox will help an entire village. This little box has the power to address the problems of illiteracy and inequality in Cambodian villages. In time, it could even play a part in changing the status of women in their villages.
